Conneaut, OH (June 8, 2018]: It was “Autograph Night” at Raceway 7 and all 101 racers present lined up on the front straight at intermission for autographs and mingling with fans. After the front straight party it was time for features with opening night winner Darrell Bossard taking the Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Crate Late Models win for his second of the year, many times champion Joel Watson repeating his opening night win in the Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mods, and Paul Schreckengost getting his first Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stock win of the year, Tyler Frankenberry returned to the track after a devastating early season accident at another area track to win the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economods feature and Dillon Speer drove his Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stock to his first-ever feature win.
The Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stocks were the first feature to take the green with 23 cars on the grid. Two former champions, the 2016 champion Jason Easler, on the pole with Joe Campbell, the defending champion, outside. Easler grabbed the immediate lead but caution flew at the end of lap one when Jim Buchanan came to a halt on the back straight. Easler, Campbell, and Logan Keney brought the field back to green but five cars tangled on turn two. On this green Dillon Speer came to second but Easler opened a car length lead at the end of three laps. Yellow flew again at lap five as Nichole Condron spun in turn three. Again turn two was an issue as Jim Haefke got turned in front of Shawn McBride with both cars sliding to a halt. Easler again led with a two length lead at the halfway point. At seven laps Speer was right behind Easler and led at the end of eight. On lap nine Campbell came to second with Shane Shook challenging for third. Shook got third on the final lap as Speer went on to the win over Campbell, Shook, Easler, and Brad Cole. It was the first-ever feature win for the young Speer.
The Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mods were the next feature with Jesse Gould and Dennis Lunger Jr on the front row with the most recent winner, Joel Watson, starting eighth. Lunger led lap one over Gould with Percy McDonald coming to second at two laps complete. Eicher, the defending champion was second at five laps complete but Lunger was enjoying a wide lead when Hunter Hulley spun in turn one, tightening the field with Percy McDonald third, Watson now up to fourth, and Troy Johnson fifth. Watson got by McDonald and Eicher at seven laps and closed to right behind Lunger when caution again fell before eight laps were in the book. For this restart it was Lunger, Watson, Eicher, Percy McDonald, and Troy Johnson. At nine laps Watson nosed ahead of Lunger and started pulling away a lap later but Hulley again spun in turn one, eliminating Watson’s lead. Eicher was second at halfway with Casey Bowers battling Johnson for third, taking the spot at twelve laps but Johnson regained third at thirteen as Bowers began slipping back in the order. Percy McDonald and Lunger then ran side by side for two laps with McDonald getting third at fifteen. Watson got the win over Eicher, McDonald, Lunger, and Johnson. The margin of victory was 1.720 second.
The Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Crate Late Models started seventeen cars with opening night winner Darrell Bossard and Breyton Santee at the front. Bossard led from green with Santee second. At five complete Bossard had a half straight lead over Santee with former champion Kyle Zimmerman third, Damian Bidwell fourth, and Chad Sines fifth. With six laps in, Dillon Goodman and Khole Wanzer spun in turn two with Wanzer then heading to the pit but Goodman able to restart the race. At the green Zimmerman and Santee ran side by side over the next lap until Zimmerman pulled away. Brandon Porter spun in turn four at lap eight, slowing the field again. Zimmerman and Santee again ran together with caution again falling a lap later when John Stockdale came to a halt on the front straight after hitting the wall. Zimmerman was second at halfway. With six to go Porter again spun, this time in turn four. Again, Zimmerman came to second but not a lap was in before Goodman again spun in turn four. Bossard went on to his second win of the season over Zimmerman, Santee, Bidwell, and Michael Doritsky.
Tyler Frankenberry and Geoff Conn were the front row for the Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economod feature. Justin Sax got turned around on the start so a complete restart was necessary. Frankenberry led the way after green with Conn second and Nate Young third and Eric Reinwald fourth. Branden Fiedler and Pat Drennan spun in turn three with two laps complete. Young came to second at the green. At three laps Mark Titus and Clint Smith got together in turn one. Sax looped his mount in turn two on the restart. Eric Reinwald spun in turn one on this start, eventually involving seven cars. After a lengthy cleanup under red flag conditions the race restarted but Pat Drennan spun coming to green. Frankenberry led lap four but yellow again at that lap when Mike Harmon spun. At five laps Matt Alexander was challenging Young for third. Frankenberry lengthened his lead over Conn to eight lengths coming to halfway when Drennan again spun, getting his sent to the pits for his third caution. Under the caution Conn headed pitside with unknown problems. For the restart it was Frankenberry, Alexander, Steve Haefke, Young, and Eric Reinwald. Haefke nosed ahead of Alexander for second at eight laps but Alexander was back solidly in the spot at lap nine. Reinwald got by Haefke for third at twelve laps. Frankenberry went on to his first win of the season over Alexander, Reinwald, Haefke, and Young.
Garrett Calvert and Pat Fielding brought the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks to green. Calvert took the lead at the start. As lap one finished Jared Larson and Rusty Wheeler spun in turn three, slowing the event. At lap two Calvert led Chris Withers, Fielding, Joe Stajnrajh, and Tim Deutsch when Wheeler spun in turn two. At five laps it was Calvert, Withers, Paul Schreckengost, Fielding, and Deutsch. Schreckengost came to second at lap seven and was next to the leader at eight laps then to the lead at nine. Deutsch came to second at five to go as Schreckengost was pulling away when caution flew at eleven laps for Larson and Mark Frontera, spun in turn four. Schreckengost pulled away over the next laps with Clark coming by Calvert for third with two to go as caution again flew. With one lap left six cars piled up in turn three. For Larson and Wheeler, their involvement was their third caution, so were sent pitside. Deutsch made a bid for the lead on the final run to the checkers but Schreckengost held on for the win. Clark, Withers, and Shaun Hooks filled out the top five.
