Summit Racing Equipment Shawshank 100 News

The American Modified Series and Mansfield Motor Speedway officials have made the decision to remove the Summit Racing Equipment Shawshank 100 from this weekend’s schedule. The cancellation comes after having conversations with several of the top 10 teams in the American Modified Series points standings. It became apparent that the long distance that is required to travel to Ohio for most of the teams is a widely large concern with the unfavorable weather forecast. The decision to cancel early in the week will allow teams and fans to make other plans for this weekend, prior to traveling a longer distance to Mansfield. “At the end of the day, if the teams have a concern to travel, then we have got to look at what is best for everyone involved and make a smart decision. The earlier you can do that the better, so that these guys can race somewhere else and so that fans can go watch other races too” Said Cody Sommer, President of Mansfield Motor Speedway. Purchased tickets, reserved camping and any driver registrations that have been received for the weekend will all be refunded in full.

The Shawshank 100 was originally set to be the AMS Series final points race. Officials are reviewing possible options for an alternative final points event and/or how series points will be finalized. Those details will be announced soon. At the conclusion, the top 10 in series points will receive a share of the season’s $20,000 point fund.
