MANSFIELD,OH. — Nearly 3 years ago, it was one of the biggest announcements in the racing industry and it struck headlines in Mansfield Ohio.  The speedway in Mansfield was going “Back To Dirt” and had the support of a recognized industry leader, Cody Sommer.

Now 3 years later, the biggest uncertainty of Mansfield Motor Speedway is its future moving forward.  It has been confirmed that Cody Sommer, the Owner/President of Mansfield Motor Speedway, LLC will not be moving forward operating the venue at the close of this calendar year.

“It was my goal to build MMS into a destination and a showplace and in so many ways I think we did that successfully.  We have had a lot of success, but we have also faced some major challenges over these last 3 years and it is part of what makes this a difficult decision” Said Sommer.  “I have several different ventures I’m involved with and likely more in the future.  Sometimes you have to step back and just look at where your life is and where it is going, where you want it to be and make a decision for what is best for you and your family” He added.

In his 3 year tenure, Sommer spearheaded the decision of converting the speedway back to dirt, a major resurfacing just this year and many facility improvements and renovations.  Additionally, he hosted a variety of events including a Summer Fair, Monster Truck Shows, Freedom Festival Fireworks, Allstar Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, The $100k Sprint Car World Championship and the Dirt Million.

The future is now uncertain.  However, the property including the 4/10 mile speedway will be FOR SALE.  For information or interest in purchasing the property, please contact the speedway office at
