After a long and extended off season, ninety cars entered the pits as fans were finally able to be in the stands at Hilltop Speedway to cheer on their favorite drivers.
The first division out for the night were the Holmes Tire late models with a field of twenty-one. Heat race winners were Cody Scott, Corey Conley and JR Gentry with top two redrawing starting spots in the feature.
With the field set, fans were more than excited to see the first green flag drop with Scott and Conley on the front row. No stranger to taking the top spot, Conley would claim lap one. Three laps in, Conley would begin to work his way through lap traffic as Rick Mardis worked past Scott for second. As the battle between Mardis and Scott ensued, Conley would advance his lead over the field. Meanwhile, working his way through the field from an eleventh starting place, Shane McLoughin, would claim sixth, looking to crack the top five. As the laps dwindled down, ‘The Flying Ace’ would solidify his position out front, leading green to checker, to pick up his first feature win at the Hill for the season. Finishing second was Rick Mardis, third was Cody Scott, fourth George Lee and fifth Vic Hottinger.
Next to roll onto the track were the Bugs-R-Gone modifieds with a field of fifteen. ‘The General’ George Lee and Kyle Moore would each pick up a heat race win placing them on the front row for the night’s 20-lap feature event.
Bringing the field to the green, Moore would jump out to the lead over Lee with one lap in the books. After some early cautions, the green was back out and DJ Cline would challenge Moore for the lead. Lap after lap, Cline would look for a way around Moore in lap traffic. However, unable to do so as Moore would go on to lead every lap to the checker. Second went to DJ Cline with third going to ‘Rockin’ Robin Duston, fourth Paul Hess and fifth Jason King.
Crozier Welding trucks would have a field of nine with Rolly Heyder picking up the only heat race win. Heyder, rounding four to take the green, would claim lap one as ‘Wild Hare’ Travis Hare would challenge his bumper for the top spot. Six laps down, the two would navigate their way through lap traffic, Hare looking to close in on Heyder. However, caution would come out with two laps to go. Single file to the restart, Hare would again pressure Heyder. Unfortunately, Hare would spin in turn 3 and 4 coming to the checker, bringing out the caution, setting up a green checker finish. Once again green, Heyder would retain the top spot picking up the win. Rounding out the top five was Dwayne Powell, Andy King, Darek Cordia and Jerry Gardner.
There were twenty-seven Snyder Hot Shot Truck and Trailer Repair modlites set to battle it out for their $750 to win special. Fast qualifier was ‘The Toboso Bullet’ Jimmy Smith with a time of 16.113, also picking up the win in one of three heat races. ‘The Dominator’ Braxton Wilson and Reece Bollinger would claim heats two and three.
With Smith setting the pace to the green, he would jump out to the early lead. Wilson, second, would be challenged by Tanner McLoughlin. As the battle heated up, caution would fly with five laps down. Back under green, Smith would again take the top spot as McLoughlin continued to challenge Wilson for second ultimately claiming. Unfortunately, troubles for Wilson would send him pit side early. McLoughlin, now second, would set his sights on Smith. However, as Smith worked his way through lap traffic, would extend his lead and pick up yet another feature win on the season. McLoughlin was followed by Reece Bollinger, Tracy Fritter and DJ Cline.
Rounding out the night were the Short Track Safety Team mini stocks with a field of sixteen. Heat race winners were Billy Parsons and Ed Geary. After a top three redraw, the field was set with Parsons and Robert Searls sitting front row. With the drop of the green, third place, Geary would work his way out front to claim the lead. Meanwhile, working their way through the field, Cody Newbury and Colton St. John would both break into the top five looking to potentially take the top spot from Geary. St. John to second, would make a last attempt effort to surpass Geary. However, unable to do so as Ed Geary would pick up the feature win. St. John second, third Jason St. John, fourth Cody Newbury and fifth Jerry Adkins.
