July 21, 2020- With the majority of 2020 being somewhat of a circus, race fans and drivers alike have something to celebrate this year. They say you can’t keep a good man down, and the same can be said for Skyline Speedway. Tucked away just off Bethany Ridge Road, new owners Jason Brookover and Mark Hickman have already begun to breathe new life into the historic facility.
Jason Brookover, a driver himself, and former owner of Waters Edge Oilfield Services has a vision for Skyline like none in the past. Along with him, his business partner Mark Hickman, a retired funeral home owner have many plans for the tracks rebirth. A host of facility upgrades over the next few months are priority number one. New lighting, bleachers, press box, wiring upgrades, PA system, in addition to many track surface improvements which are being implemented immediately.
The facility will be hosting between 6-8 races per year under the new ownership. Special events for each of the upcoming dates will be showcasing Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Mods, and Sprint Cars, along with other support divisions to be determined. The Harvest 50, American Heritage, and a brand new event “The Brawl For It All” will be some of the events fans can expect to see. While the duo would like to have an event in 2020, facility upgrades are the top priority, and action will not resume at the facility until the staff feels the facility is ready. Management does ask for your patience while they do prepare the facility and as mentioned above, if time permits, a possible event could be held later this fall.
Information can be found on the Skyline Speedway Facebook page regarding progress and updates. For all the craziness that 2020 has dealt us, we hope that you will rejoice with us at the reopening of this legendary facility. It has seen great races, fantastic fans, and generations of top-notch drivers over the last several decades, and the tracks new management is excited to bring that back to life and build towards the future.
