The pits were once again overflowing with cars for Kid’s night at Wayne County Speedway with the big feature race of the night going to the McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks and the 4th annual Danny Gardner Memorial. It would be an up and down and up again night for Wooster’s Brandon Morrow as he started the night out by setting a new track record for Super Stocks with a time of 19.549 seconds. He would pick up $127 from National Floor Source for that achievement. He would finish second in his heat race and start third in the feature. Morrow would move into second on the opening lap but coming out of turn four at the end of lap two, would spin out with a flat tire. The Coblentz Trucking #c9 would go to the pits and change the tire and join the field in 18th place. Up front it was Brad Hensel leading the way for the opening 7 circuits with Doug Drown on his bumper and when Hensel went to high in turn two and bounced of the guardrail, Drown would take the top spot as Hensel went pitside. By this time, Morrow had worked his way back to fifth as John Wilson, Chase Alexander and Michael Amick trailed Drown. On lap 15, Morrow had powered his way to second and following a restart after a lap 20 caution, Drown broke, ending his chances. In a mad dash to the finish line, Morrow held off Wilson and Amick as they were three wide at the finish. Chase Alexander and Seth Dickerson, who won the last chance race, filled out the top five. Taking the heat wins were Hensel, Drown, Brandon Craver and Don Rutt. All the heat winners and the last chance winners collected bonus money from the National Floor Source. It was also a ‘Summer Series’ race for the Super Stocks.

The Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprints would see Dylan Kingan grab the lead from the pole position but the race would go red as Wyatt Zimmerman took a tumble into the infield across from the flag stand. Kingan would once again lead the field back to green as points leader Dean Jacobs moved to Kingan’s rear push bar and Jacobs would overtake him on lap three. Another red flag on lap 11 for an upside down Scott Boyd and on this restart, Broc Martin would move into second. Martin would try and take the lead from Jacobs and finally did on lap 16. Martin would set the pace for the next four laps as his front wing got bent and Jacobs would close back in and take the lead back with three laps to go and the Wooster driver would put the B &B Drain Service,Harbaugh Electronics and Kear’s #9 into the winners circle for the third time this year. Martin would hang on to second with 15th starting Danny Mumaw taking third. Tyler Street would edge out Clay Riney at the finish line for fourth. Martin, TJ Michael and Jason Dolick topped the heat races.

Brad Malcuit out raced Doug Drown into turn one of the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Model feature and would hold off drown the first nine laps whe Drown powered past coming out of turn two. They would run that way until a lap 18 caution for Cody Scott, who spun while running fourth. On the restart, Mitch Caskey would get past Malcuit for second as JR Gentry, Ryan Markham and Justin Chance dueled for fourth. Just as the white flag waved, Malcuit lost a wheel ending his good race. As the race went back to green for the final lap, Drown and his Wooster based Ely Road Reel Company, Wooster Glass and JoyRide Transport #12 pulled away from Caskey for his fourth win of the year at WCS. Markham would finish third followed by Gentry and Chance. Heat winners were Gentry and Drown. Jason Henderson won the Kar Connection/Accu Force Shocks Hard Charger.

Electing to start tail of the 16 car field for the Modifieds, Mansfield’s Kyle Moore worked his way through the pack and took the lead on lap ten to pick up the win. Gary Hensel Jr. would set the pace for the first seven laps when Scott Peltz took over as he led the next two circuits before Moore and his Kepling Floors, Moore’s Used Tires and Arnold Motorsports #11* took over. DJ Cline would move in to battle for second with Peltz and those to made contact on lap 11, denting up both cars with Cline going to the pits on the next lap and Peltz staying in second. Moore would pull away the final laps as Peltz fended off a challenge from Josh Morrow to hang on to second. Justin Carlson and Jeremy Waite rounded out the top five. Moore and Cline secured the heat wins.

It took Loudonville’s Jordan James less than four laps to take the lead away from Stephen Crowe and the pull away to collect his third straight JoyRide Transport feature win. Starting the Thompson Memorials, Brad’s Auto Body and Harris Automotive #83 in the eighth position, James used the highside of the track to move to the lead. It was back and forth for positions behind James as Cory Staley and Ryan Carder went race long from their second row starting spots to finish in that order. With some of the up front starters fading, Colton St. John would finish fourth followed by Kevin Markey. Winning the heat races were St.John, Jolene Voshel, Carder and James while David Keagy and Travis Hutton won the last chance races. This was also a Kirsch Properties ‘Summer Series’ race.

A big thanks to Everything Surplus and Excess Limited for their donations to Kid’s Night plus all other that also donated. Also thanks to Darrell and Becky from Quota International for all of their help and to DL Rutt Builders for their donation of the hot dogs and additional sponorship of the races. Thanks to Kar Connection for their partnership with the Kid’s Bike races.

Next Saturday night, August 15th will be a regular show for the Sprints, Late Models, Super Stocks and Mini Stocks with gates open at 3 pm and racing at 7 pm.
