It was Season Championship night at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’ with three of the four class’ of cars having multitude options for drivers winning the championships. The only one that was secure was the Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprints as Wooster’s Dean Jacobs would claim his second straight title by just starting the feature and he would finish 7th to lock it up. Henry Malcuit took the pole position and quickly open up a good size lead over Jordan Ryan with Trey Jacobs in third. Following a caution on lap eight, Malcuit would lead the pack into turn three where he slipped high and slowed just for a split second and that allowed both Ryan and Trey Jacobs to get past and Dean Jacobs would bounce off the turn four wall losing a couple of places. Malcuit would gather himself back up and battle with Trey Jacobs for second Running the high side in turn one and two, Jacobs would tag the wall on lap 16 and Chris Myers would move into third as Malcuit started to close in on Ryan. Two laps later, Ricky Peterson slipped past Trey Jacobs for fourth as R J jacobs challenged Trey for that position. Coming to the white flag, Malcuit closed in on Ryan for the lead but as they crossed the finish line, Ryan of Castalia and his America’s Best Bow, Ignition Logistics and Burns Electric #19r won by a car length for his first win. For Malcuit, it would be a season best second place finish with Myers third followed by Peterson with Trey, R J and Dean Jacobs in fifth, sixth and seventh. Heat winners were Myers and R J Jacobs.

For the Malcuit Tavern Super Late Models, Wooster’s J R Gentry would be the points leader and needed to finish fourth or better to claim the championship and would start third in the feature behind Ryan Markham who was second in the points and started on the pole. As the green flag flew to start the race, Markham would take the lead with Gentry in his tire tracks. Outside front row starter Mitch Caskey fell back to third on the start with Justin Chance in fourth. Gentry would try different lines to try to get around Markham to no avail and as the pair came out of turn four to finish lap 12, Markham’s car would slow and Gentry would make contact with Markham, who would pull into the infield with a broken belt. The race would continue with Gentry and his El Campesino Restaurant, Skurts Custom Apparel and Holmes Pest Control #14 held onto the lead with Caskey in second followed by Chance and then a battle between Mike Bores and Brad Malcuit for fourth. With the laps dwindling down, Gentry’s car began to get loose in the corners and Caskey closed in and as they came down to the checkered flag, Gentry would win his third feature of the year by less than a car length and win the championship. In the ten points races this year, Gentry never finished out of the top ten. Chance held on to finish third with Bores in fourth ahead of Malcuit. Gentry and Markham topped the heat races as Nick Cox was the Accu-Force Shocks/Kar Connection hard charger.

The McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks championship had many scenarios going into the race with who finishing where would decide the champion. The clear cut option would be for points leader John Wilson to win     the feature or finish in front of Tyler Wiles and Don Rutt. Brandon Craver would use the outside pole position to grab the lead with Wilson in second and Chase Alexander in third. Alexander would take second on lap five and move in on Craver for the lead. Driving the Palmer & Sons Excavating, Rich’s Tire & Service Center and Lincolnway Pizza #15, Alexander powered past Craver coming out of turn two on lap eight. Moving through the field from his seventh starting place, Bob Daugherty motored past Wilson on the same circuit and on the next lap slipped past Craver for second. Daugherty would pull right to the back of Alexander’s machine and in the last five laps tried everything he could to get by Alexander but the Orrville driver kept the door closed and posted his first win of the season by less than a car length. Craver finished third with Wilson’s fourth place finish earning him the championship. Don Baney filled out the top five. Posting the heat wins were Alexander and Craver.

Different drivers had championship hopes going into the feature for the JoyRide Transport Mini Stocks with Cory Staley, Doug Hensel and Jordan James in contention for the crown. James would grab the lead of the feature on the opening circuit from his fourth starting position with Travis Hutton in pursuit and Hensel, who started ninth, worked his way into top five on lap five and three laps later powered into second right before the red flag waved as two different accidents sent two driver flipping. With a tight battle for positioning, it was four wide going into turn one and with a lot of contact, Jolene Voshel ended up upside down while in turn two, Dustin Bedlion ended up on his lid. Both drivers were ok. With the double file restart, Hensel swiped the lead away from James on the restart and the Wooster driver and his Bad Boyz Tree Service #18 would keep James at bay and collect his fifth win of the season and claim the championship. Hutton finished third as Ryan Carder grabbed fourth with Last Chance winner Billy Parsons, who started 16th, rounding out the top five. Hensel, Hutton and Voshel pocketed the heat wins.

It was also a Kirsch Properties ‘Summer Series’ race for the Mini Stocks and Swanger Sports ‘Summer Series’ race for the Super Stocks.

The next race at Wayne County Speedway will be Sunday, September 6th with the Pete Jacobs Memorial for the 410 Sprints with $13,000 going to the winner. The Steel Block Late Model Series and the Modifieds will also be on the racing card. Gates will open at 3 pm and racing at 7 pm.
